Keepmoat kick-starts Kendal project with volunteering day

Staff at Keepmoat, have utilised the firms volunteering policy to help flood victims in the South Lakes, after being moved by the sense of community during a recent project.

Community regeneration and housebuilding specialist, Keepmoat, was appointed by South Lakes Housing to refurbish 45 properties in Kendal that have been badly impacted by the flooding late last year.

The firm is stripping off the damp plaster and removing the water damaged timber floors. The properties are also being cleaned and sanitised, before installing new floors and a tanking membrane to the walls to allow a quicker application of new plaster finishes.

The properties will also benefit from brand new boilers and kitchens along with renovation works to the ground floor of the properties.

Sara Sutton, head of learning and development at Keepmoat describes how the resident’s inspiring positivity in spite of the chaos has struck a chord with those assigned to the project.

She explained: “The damage from the flooding has left some locals without a home and many have to stay with relatives while we work to restore the area. We desperately want to do everything we can to get people back in their homes sooner rather than later; and we unanimously agreed that we had to do more.

“Keepmoat offers a great volunteering policy and so we rallied up a team to help with some of the smaller scale jobs that still need to be done, such as clearing out the gardens that have accumulated rubbish.

“Everybody got really stuck in, including some of our apprentices, and we hope that little bit of extra help will go a long way to getting this great community back on track.”
