Ryanair announces new flights to European capital at John Lennon airport

Irish carrier Ryanair has announced plans to introduce flights between Liverpool and Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, later this year.

The service is the airline’s fourth new route of 2016 and will operate twice weekly when it kicks off at the end of October, forming part of Ryanair’s winter schedule at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA).

The head of PR at LJLA, Robin Tudor, said: “We are delighted to see Ryanair add to its list of destinations served from Liverpool and particularly as Sofia is a city not currently served from here.

“This will further improve connectivity for the City Region, enhancing our links to the capitals of Europe.”

Last week, the airport was preparing for what was expected to be one of its busiest Easter weekends yet, with forecasts pointing to passenger levels as high as 60k.

Commenting on the new European route, the head of communications with Ryanair, Robin Kiely, said: “Ryanair is pleased to announce a new twice weekly Liverpool winter service to/from Sofia beginning on 31st October, which is now on sale on the Ryanair.com website.”

Speaking further, he said the firm’s full Winter 2016 schedule at LJLA will soon be unveiled.
