Sustainable & Viable Heat Network Workshop

With many councils planning town and city-wide heat networks there are many questions as to what is the most effective and efficient direction for your network.

We have designed a one day event to bring together local councils who can share their experiences of developing and delivering heat networks.

The event will take place at King’s Place on York Way, London on April 14th and will include a tour of the King’s Cross energy scheme.

Delegates will hear from councils who have already been through the process of developing a viable heat network and organisations that specialise in the field of decentralised energy. The day will cover case studies, procurement route options, asset ownership, lessons learned, routes to market, funding and you can ask your own specific questions of our speakers.

DECC Heat Network Delivery Unit (HNDU) - John Saunders

An overview from DECC as to what they can see happening in the development space and the challenges that are being faced.

Nottingham City Council Heat Network

As one of the UK’s largest district heating schemes, connecting over 5,000 homes and 100 commercial buildings, Nottingham City Council will be sharing their experiences of delivering their heat network and the challenges they have overcome as well as their future plans.

The King’s Cross Network - Chris Smith of Argent & John Marsh of Metropolitan

King’s Cross is one of the largest and most exciting redevelopments in London. The 67 acre site is fuelled by a CHP energy centre and continues to expand as the development progresses. This session will explore how the network drivers, shared ownership and future connections to the network.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority - Julian Packer

The GMCA combines the Councils across the whole of Greater Manchester and is currently at the beginning of its network delivery. Hear about their low carbon ambitions, drivers, chosen procurement route and the development of investable pipeline projects.

Ernst & Young – Mark Brockway and Atkins – Steve Cowan on the commercial and technical challenges of delivering and developing Heat Networks

Having worked on some of the UK’s major networks, Atkins and EY will give their experiences of overcoming technical design challenges and developing a viable commercial business case.
