Jim’s Carpets purchase £1.6m warehouse at Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone
A family-run carpet and flooring business has relocated into new premises at the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone.
Jim’s Carpet’s has purchased a new £1.6m warehouse at the zone with support from NatWest and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Founded in 1962 by James Walker, Jim’s Carpets is an independent flooring specialist based in West Yorkshire.
The business caters for domestic, contract and commercial customers across Yorkshire and the UK, and operate from three retail outlets in Leeds and Wakefield.
The new 22,000 sq ft warehouse will provide storage as well as room for future expansion. Jim’s Carpets has recently secured new contracts with Barratt Homes to provide flooring for the developer’s new-builds.
Steve Walker, director of Jim’s Carpets, said: “The new warehouse provides the ideal facility for us to grow and expand particularly as the new-build housing sector continues to grow. We will need to continue to develop our business to compliment this sector.”
Jim’s Carpets employs 27 people and is currently recruiting for five new staff members. Bosses hope to increase the workforce to 50 people over the next 18 months.
When the time came to secure a loan for the purchase, Steve turned to Mark Forsyth, senior relationship manager at NatWest, for support.
Mark obtained a seven-figure loan to facilitate the purchase and the LEP provided a grant to part fund the internal part of the warehouse fit out.
Steve added: “Mark has been absolutely fantastic to work with. He was positive when we first went to him to discuss our requirements. NatWest were approachable and moved quickly which is needed when you are moving premises.”
Mark also commented: “I was delighted to support Jim’s Carpets on its purchase of new premises. The business continues to develop and grow to meet the needs of customers, and I wish the business every success for the future.”
