Sefton Park Palm House strikes ‘Gold’
Sefton Park Palm House has achieved ‘Gold’ level in a Green Tourism grading visit.
The Grade II* listed glasshouse, located in the idyllic Sefton Park, has achieved the notable accolade due to its ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Green Tourism is the largest sustainable certification programme of its kind, assessing a number of places to stay and visit in the UK and abroad, with ‘Gold’ level being the highest achievable title.
Team Assistant at Sefton Park Palm House Kate Martinez said: “It’s certainly an honour to have achieved ’Gold’ level in our most recent Green Tourism grading visit. Since our restoration in 2000, we are now a unique glasshouse home to a number of exotic plants, and we also encourage wildlife through the use of bat and bird boxes, with our findings recorded and displayed for our visitors’ perusal.
“The team and I are always striving to achieve sustainability, and one of the ways we do so is through the use of ethical suppliers. We regularly obtain environmental policies from all of our suppliers, and like to use local producers such as Adams & Russell, who provide us with Fairtrade tea and coffee.“
The award-winning Sefton Park Palm House supports its local community with a regular and eclectic events calendar comprising live music, artisan fairs and children’s parties to name a few. Many events also attract visitors from across the country.
Kate added: “As we are a registered charity, our events programme continues to support the work that we do. We are easily accessible by a number of efficient transport links, although our scenic location offers the best of both worlds by also promoting walking and cycling in the park.
“In a bid to further decrease our carbon footprint, we will ensure that our marketing brochures are printed on 100% recycled paper using vegetable inks, and will encourage those who read them to recycle the copies in the future.“
