Siglion Sunderland City 10K Business Challenge

Businesses are lining up to be crowned the fastest in the North East this spring. The Siglion Sunderland City 10K Business Challenge will see runners from different firms compete for a trophy, a visit from a world champion athlete and a celebration night out worth £500. Already, 21 companies are eligible for the challenge and there’s still time for staff to sign up for the event on Sunday 1 May.

To qualify for the Siglion Sunderland City 10K Business Challenge, at least four representatives need to have booked a place in the race. The times of the fastest four finishers (male or female) will be added up and the lowest cumulative total will win the event.

The winner’s trophy will be presented in the company’s office by event founder and North East athletics legend Steve Cram and the challenge is being supported by Run Sunderland Festival headline sponsor Siglion. Siglion CEO John Seager will lead his company’s team in the 10K and will join Cram to present the prize at a later date. As well as the trophy, the winning team will enjoy a £500 night out in a restaurant or bar in Sunderland.

John Seager comments: “The Siglion Sunderland City 10K is fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the city. Over the next few years there will be plenty of positive changes and the corporate challenge was an idea that we came up with to encourage other businesses to get involved and be part of what is a fantastic event at a really exciting time for Sunderland.”

A partnership between organiser Events of the North, Sunderland City Council and Active Sunderland, the Siglion Sunderland City Half Marathon and 10K will see thousands of runners and spectators in the city centre on Sunday 1 May. This year’s races will start and finish on Keel Square, a symbol of the city’s renewal and regeneration, and the first location to benefit from Siglion’s £100 million-plus programme to transform the city.

Steve Cram adds: “With the growth in popularity of running, I think that most companies will find that they have some budding 10K stars on their teams. The Siglion Sunderland City 10K Business Challenge is a great opportunity to enjoy some friendly rivalry and encourage staff to actively participate in a growing event in the city centre.”
