Heywood Distribution Park

Construction begins at Trafford Park following completion of 212,000 sq ft Heywood development

Investment manager Harbert Management Corporation (HMC) has completed construction work on a 212,000 sq ft speculative development in Heywood, near Bury.

The latest phase of development at the 200-acre Heywood Distribution Park from HMC’s Harbert European Real Estate Fund III brings the total warehouse and distribution space at the site past the two million sq ft mark.

Trafford Park-based Russell Construction delivered the two new buildings, which comprise 145,000 sq ft and 67,000 sq ft.

Current occupiers at Heywood Distribution Park include logistics management firm Wincanton, supermarket chain Aldi, infrastructure and support services company Eddie Stobart, furniture retailer DFS and US doughnut business Krispy Crème.

Catalogue retailer Argos and delivery firm DPD also have operations at the development.

Elsewhere, Harbert has launched construction efforts on two more warehouses at the entrance to Trafford Park in Greater Manchester.

Located at Trafford Point on Ashburton Road West, one unit will offer 140,544 sq ft and the other 97,295 sq ft when complete in August this year.

Real estate firm CBRE is the asset manager for the Harbert European Real Estate Fund III’s North West estates.

Howard Hill, CBRE’s Manchester-based associate director, commented: “These developments represent a significant investment and a huge vote of confidence in the North West region and place Harbert as the leading industrial developer in the Manchester area.

“We have strong interest from a number of major occupiers in the units across the portfolio.”
