Lendlease secures £87m former BBC Media Village refurbishment
Property and infrastructure group Lendlease has been awarded the £87m construction manager contract for a major refurbishment project at the site of the former BBC Media Village.
The contract for the site, now dubbed White City Place, on Wood Lane in West London will see the refurbishment of the WestWorks, Mediaworks and Garden House buildings, creating commercial office facilities and driving regeneration in the area.
Work on the three buildings, which is to be carried out by developers Stanhope, Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo., has a total value of £80m with a further £7m of work on landscaping.
Once complete, the 17-acre White City Place development, which sits adjacent to the Imperial College campus, will house 600,000 sq ft of commercial office space for rent.
Further plans for the area, which sits close to White City and Wood Lane tube stations, including 2,500 new homes, more than two million sq ft of offices, along with new public spaces and shopping and leisure facilities.
Lendlease have a long-term involvement with the site, having built the Mediaworks and Garden House buildings 12 years ago and providing an advice package on buildability and logistics before work began.
Managing Director at Lendlease’s construction business, Neil Martin, commented: “We’re excited to be working with our longstanding client Stanhope as well as Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo on White City Place.
“We worked closely with the team to understand exactly what was required in order to deliver the right results and optimise the return on their investment. We’ve long been involved in major projects in this part of West London.”
