Experienced catering duo to launch new café on York’s Bishy Road
Robinsons, a new licensed café on York’s Bishopthorpe Road, is set to open its doors later this month.
Located at number seven Bishopthorpe Road, the new café specialises in freshly prepared dishes that use locally sourced ingredients.
Owners chef Rebecca Toppin and front-of-house manager William Pearce will serve an all-day menu serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and, in the future, made-to-order hot takeaway family meals. The café will be open six days a week (closed on Wednesdays).
Both Rebecca and William have previous experience in the catering industry. The couple met while working alongside double Michelin-starred chef Kenny Atkinson at Rockcliffe Hall in County Durham. They have also worked at restaurants for other renowned chefs, including Raymond Blanc and Shaun Rankin.
Rebecca said: “Our idea of food heaven isn’t fussy gastronomy but simple, tasty food that uses quality local produce – all served with a smile.
“Of course, we’ll be using all our experience from working at some of the finest eateries with the best chefs to deliver delicious food. One of the most important things we’ve had drilled into us, is the importance of keeping it local and using home-grown ingredients.”
Robinsons’ local suppliers will include Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, bread from Haxby bakery, butter from Malton and fruit and vegetables from fellow Bishy Road trader and York greengrocer, Millie’s.
The café also has an alcohol licence, therefore Bloody Marys, beers, wines and liqueur coffees will appear on its drinks menu, alongside hot chocolates and coffee sourced from North East independent rosters at Barnard Castle.
Will added: “We can’t wait to be back in the kitchen and serving customers after spending a few months doing all the hard paperwork and licensing side of things. We’re also thrilled to be working alongside lots of brilliant, independent traders on York’s Bishy Road.”
