Billionaires granted permission to turn Labour Party's 1997 election base into luxury flats

David and Simon Reuben, the billionaire property investors, have been granted planning permission to turn Millbank Tower into luxury apartments.

The plans will see the 118 meter-high skyscraper, located in the borough of Westminster, transformed into 207 new luxury homes, along with a skybar and a 150-bedroom hotel.

Under proposals put together by architects John McAslan & Partners, the iconic building, which formerly housed the Labour Party’s general election base in 1997, will be reglazed with an extra two floors be added to facilitate three new penthouses and the proposed skybar.

Sitting near the Palace of Westminster, Millbank Tower is one of the capital’s most recognisable skyscrapers, and has previously contained offices for institutions such as the United Nations and the Office of National Statistics.

The move to turn the offices into luxury flats comes as more developers in the capital turn to housing due to the rising costs of London’s office space.
