Launch of ‘Uber for hospitality staff’ aims to revolutionise temping in the capital

New London-based tech startup, Staff Heroes, is aiming to bring the sharing economy to hospitality temping.

Calling itself the ‘Uber for hospitality staff’, Staff Heroes’ online platform helps to get short-term hospitality staff into temporary or contingency staffing positions through its end-to-end system.

Initially focusing on the capital, the platform claims to provide employers with a pool of over 1,000 pre-vetted professionals, ranging from silver service waiters to bar staff and housekeeping, who have publicly viewable ratings and references.

The platform also handles payment, with the employers changed only once a worker has completed a shift.

Laurent Gibb, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Staff Heroes said: “Staff Heroes is to the staffing sector, what Uber is to the taxi industry. We remove the need for businesses to spend time and resources on unnecessary admin and agency fees, by providing a secure, automated platform to source quality workers with ease.

“Businesses in the hospitality industry experience fluctuations in their staffing needs that can leave them exposed at the worst possible times. Our solution is to supply short-term contingent staffing to plug any gaps in their operations.

“We are empowering businesses to take control of their hiring needs via a flexible and user-friendly platform. This also benefits our heroes who will be able to identify local opportunities to engage in short-term work and earn money.”

The sharing economy is one of the hottest topics in tech circles at the moment, with recent research by PWC estimating that the value of the sharing economy will top $335bn (approx. £226m) worldwide by 2025.
