Builder’s best foot forward for Niamh’s Next Step

A regional housebuilder’s senior project manager is lacing up his running shoes to support local charity Niamh’s Next Step.

Paul Carvey, who works for Persimmon Homes Midlands, will run the Milton Keynes Marathon on the 2nd May aiming to raise hundreds of pounds for the company’s chosen charity of the year.

Niamh’s Next Step supports families affected by neuroblastoma and raises money to fund vital research education programmes into this aggressive disease. It was founded in memory of five-year-old Niamh Curry, who was one of the 100 children to be diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the UK each year.

This will only be Paul’s second ever marathon, and he has spent the last four months training in preparation for the gruelling run. His training schedule includes running up to 20 miles each weekend as well as two weekly training sessions.

The 45-year-old from Wellingborough said: “When I ran the Brighton marathon last year for Niamh’s Next Step, I reached around 18 miles and vowed to never run another marathon again. It was incredibly tough both physically and emotionally.

“However once I completed the challenge it gave me such a huge sense of achievement, I knew I had to run another in support of this amazing charity.”

Paul explained: “The pain of running a marathon is only temporary, and any money raised will help families fighting this rare and aggressive childhood cancer neuroblastoma, funding vital research which sadly receives no NHS or government funding currently.

“I am very grateful to my colleagues at Persimmon Midlands for their support, and I know this will mean so much to the charity”.
