Pioneering Krynkl development now under way

WORK is now underway on one of Sheffield’s most talked about and eagerly anticipated commercial developments.

The Krynkl project at Shalesmoor has been devised by award winning city architectural practice Coda Studios and will be created entirely from recycled shipping containers.

The £500,000 eco-friendly design - the first of its type outside London - is being funded by the South Yorkshire based private investment fund A Shade Greener Money PLC and has won the support of Sheffield Council.

Already several leading companies are ready to move in, including the acclaimed Milestone restaurant group and the Trib3 health club and gym.

The containers that form the basis of the complex have been shipped into the UK from China and are now being made ready for the Shalesmoor site close to historic Kelham Island.

“This really is one of the most exciting and unusual projects we have worked on and one that will bring a whole new level of interest and excitement to an area of Sheffield that is ripe for regeneration and development,” said Coda Managing Director David Cross.

“As well as names like the Milestone and Trib3, we also have some brilliant fashion labels and brands expressing their interest in coming into the Krynkl project and being part of an innovative and unique concept.”

Space has also been set aside to encourage start up businesses to move in and take advantage of what is being described as a ‘mini creative industries hub.’

The Krynkl team are offering free office units for 12 months to the city’s best and most innovative start up businesses - the first to benefit is city events management company Freshly Squeezed.

“We met Freshly Squeezed and it was obvious that they understood what Krynkl was all about and that they should be part of the complex,” said David.

“This is all part of our spirit of social responsibility, supporting fledgling businesses and it is something we we will be taking forwards as we develop two more Krynkl sites in the region over the next few months.”

Anthony Cundall, Director of A Shade Greener said: “We are delighted to be financing this ground breaking new development in Sheffield, the first of its kind in the North of England and we are looking forward to supporting the Krynkl and Coda Studios team on similar initiatives throughout the region.”
