Local sports club gives wildlife a home
Five star housebuilder, David Wilson Homes (DWH) North West, has helped local sports and social club, Whalley Range Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club, to give wildlife a home, thanks to a donation of bird and bat boxes.
The club, which provides year round sporting facilities for the surrounding community, successfully applied for funds through DWH North West’s charitable and community scheme, Our Space, Your Place, to purchase and install bird and bat boxes.
These materials will be used to support local wildlife which might otherwise struggle to find a home in an inner city setting.
The donation to Whalley Range Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club is in line with a new strategy for DWH North West to help protect and enhance semi-natural habitats. The housebuilder last year signed an agreement - the first of its kind in the UK – with the RSPB to enhance the wildlife value at future homes developments.
Andrew Taylor, Our Space, Your Place Project Coordinator and Planning Director at DWH North West, comments: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to building strong communities in areas surrounding our developments. Whalley Range Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club is a fantastic local facility for Manchester residents, so we are absolutely delighted to be able to support it by providing materials to shelter the area’s wildlife.”
The housebuilder’s Our Space Your Space scheme offers support to community groups in the region through volunteering time or funding. Applications can be made through its website: www.ourspaceyourplace.co.uk.
DWH North West has recently scooped a prestigious Five Star award by the National Home Builder’s Federation (NHF) for the seventh consecutive year – the only national housebuilder to achieve this accolade.
