Gisborough Hall goes green with new award win
Gisborough Hall has notched up another award, this time thanks to its efforts to be eco-friendly.
At the start of 2016, Gisborough Hall was named as one of the best hotels in the North East and North Yorkshire by guests, clinching ‘Top Rated Hotel’ status by Laterooms.com’s Simply the Guest Awards, and now the four-star hotel has been named as a ‘Green Leader’ by TripAdvisor.
The award recognises the hotel’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices and comes after Gisborough Hall also received a Green Tourism Gold Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme and a Greener Path Award by the British Council for Sustainable Developments.
The hotel, on the outskirts of Guisborough, has a number of procedures in place to ensure it continually reduces its impact on the environment. These include: - the installation of LED lights throughout the site; the recycling of all cardboard, paper, metal, plastics, glass and oil; the compositing of all garden waste; the use of a Biomass heating system which utilises waste wood instead of raw timber to reduce delivery miles; the reduction of food miles by sourcing produce locally; and planting native species and herbs for use in the kitchen within Gisborough Hall’s vast grounds.
Kim Yardley, Gisborough Hall’s general manager, said: “We’re very proud of our green credentials and this award is a lovely accolade. However, we do recognise that there is always room for improvement with regards to the environment which is why we are always looking at new ways to be eco-friendlier. After all, Gisborough Hall is located in an area of outstanding beauty at the foot of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors National Park and we all must strive to protect our environment for future generations to enjoy.
“We have many initiatives in place and our team is very enthusiastic about these so it’s great to get recognition in the form of this award. We’re fortunate to have such a passionate team, such as our greenkeepers who maintain our wonderful grounds and our head chef, Jason Moore, who works tirelessly to use as much produce as possible from the fabulous North East and Yorkshire local larder on our doorstep.”
Gisborough Hall, which last year unveiled its new rooms and suites following a £400,000 investment, dates back to the 19th century hotel is home to two AA Rosette restaurant ‘Chaloner’s’, a Revival Zone spa, 71 bedrooms and ‘G’ Bar and Bistro, as well as a ballroom, conservatory and events’ spaces and its traditional drawing room and inner hall.
The country hall now employs a team of 105 local people across the hotel, a number which has steadily increased in the last year thanks to the refurbishment as afternoon teas, corporate events and dinners and international tourism all continue to thrive.
