Popular Leeds Mexican grill to open first London restaurant in Islington
Mexican restaurant Cielo Blanco, which began life in Leeds, is to open its first outlet in London.
The restaurant, which specialises in social Mexican food such as sharing boards, is to open a new venue at Exmouth Market, Islington in May and will be Cielo’s second restaurant, after opening its current venue at Leeds Trinity shopping centre in 2013.
Plans for the new restaurant include a giant tree sprouting from a communal table as a centrepiece, along with skylights and a basement bar stocking specialist Mexican tequilas and mezcals.
Ged Feltham, who founded Cielo Blanco, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing our Cielo Blanco concept to London’s busy Exmouth Market. The restaurant will capture the sociable, fun feel of Mexican eating with a menu that caters to all audiences – whether it be a quick bite for lunchtime business diners or an all-evening feast for large parties and everyone in between.
“Naturally, our drinks offering will be just as important as the food. So it’s great that we will have a basement bar for people to come and relax and join us in our obsession and absolute love of the finest agave spirits.”
Cielo is part of the Leelex group of restaurants, which includes Notting Hill cocktail bar The Portobello Star, as well as a range of other leisure venues in Leeds.
