Innov8 wins prestigious Thornton Science Park Contract

North West-based site safety and CDM firm, Innov8 Safety Solutions, has won a contract to support global consulting engineers, Arup, as development work continues at Thornton Science Park in Chester.

The Energy Demonstrator project, commissioned by the University of Chester, is part funded from the Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Local Growth Fund, and forms part of the world-class Thornton Science Park, based on the former Shell site near Ince. It will be a major research and innovation hub for the University. The Science Park in total consists of 48 buildings spread across 66 acres offering over 1 million square feet of laboratory, office and workshop space.

Innov8 were appointed to provide principal designer support after a recommendation by Ryder Architecture. The role will see them working with project designers and contractors throughout the refurbishment of an existing building to ensure complete legal compliance with the CDM Regulations 2015 (Construction Design Management).

Jeremy Meredith, operations director at Innov8 Safety Solutions, said: “This is a fantastic project. Thornton Science Park has already become known as a centre of excellence for cutting edge scientific work offering state-of the-art science and research facilities which is attracting businesses. We’re delighted to be helping to further enhance the facility which is having such a positive impact on our local and regional economies.

He added: “With the law changes that came into force last year, the principal designer support role is now even more important. It’s so much easier for health and safety inspectors to fine or prosecute duty holders for non-compliance, even if it hasn’t led to an incident.

“We will provide full support, making sure our client is fully aware of, and compliant with, their health and safety obligations throughout the delivery of the project.”

Innov8 is working alongside its sister company, Lucion Environmental, on this initial phase of the project. Lucion provided specialist asbestos surveying and testing, and tendered asbestos removal works enabling reduction in overall project duration and cost.

Jeremy continued: “Being part of the Lucion services group of companies means that we’re able to provide additional resource and services, strengthening our overall offer while delivering seamless and cost effective solutions for the smooth and efficient delivery of construction projects.”
