SSP seals another airport food and catering contract with £280m Gulf deal
London-headquartered food and beverage operator SSP has been awarded a £280m contract to provide food outlets at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The deal, which is due to run between five and ten years, will see the introduction of 17 new brands at the international airport’s new Midfield Terminal Building, as part of three food and beverage units and the terminal’s Food Park food court.
The exact brands are yet to be revealed; however, SSP have revealed that the food and catering line up will mix both local and international brands and serve to promote ‘the culture and cuisine of 21st century Abu Dhabi’.
Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports commented: “The food and beverage offering at the Midfield Terminal Building will challenge the very perception of food and beverage retailing in an airport environment thus far and will set the benchmark for dining concepts moving forward.
“Bearing in mind the wide demographic that we will be catering to, we are thrilled with the pioneering, avant-garde approaches that we have been able to gather together under one roof.”
Nick Inkster, Chief Executive Officer, SSP Western Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific said: “We always aim to exceed passengers’ expectations and we thrive on being a part of the ever-changing culinary scene, adapting our offer to shifting tastes and trends.
“Having had the privilege of being a significant food and beverage provider at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) for nearly a decade, we are delighted to be building on this important partnership. This deal will also pave the way for further development of our business in the wider Middle East region.”
