Two out of every three London employers oppose Brexit, figures show

New research from UK job site Reed has outlined the support for remaining in the EU amongst London’s employers.

In a survey of over 1,700 UK employers, the recruitment website found that the levels of support for remaining in the EU was highest in London (71%) than anywhere else in the country, closely followed by the East of England (68%) and East Midlands (63%).

However, support was not quite so pronounced elsewhere in the country, with employers in the South East (52%) and the North East (57%) registering the lowest levels of support for remaining in the EU.

The survey also demonstrates a split between the concerns driving both camps, with employers in the remain camp citing concerns about the economy (48%) and business and trade (41%) influencing their decision, while British sovereignty (51%) and immigration (32%) were the two most common issues for the leave camp.

Overall, more than half of employers surveyed are worried leaving Europe could put jobs at risk, while a further 55% believe Brexit will deter foreign investment in the UK.

Commenting on the figures, James Reed, Chairman at Reed commented: “We surveyed over 1,700 employers and they are very clear; a strong majority said that we should remain in the EU. And it’s easy to understand why.

“More than half of UK employers think jobs would be at risk if the UK leaves the EU. And for many people, this is the harsh reality that could affect them most.”
