Pavegen aims to 'reshape the way people move in cities' with new product launch
UK tech firm Pavegen have launched a new version of their smart energy generating technology that it aims to mix energy generation with smart city data.
The firm’s new V3 technology, which was launched today (Wednesday) at an event in London, is claimed to generate ‘200 times’ more energy than the firm’s original prototype and has been developed with efficient LEDs to provide off-grid lighting powered entirely by footfall.
The tech firm has spent the last six years developing indoor and outdoor tiles that generate off-grid energy through kinetic movement from people’s footsteps.
Pavegen also look to be maneuvering into the smart city space, with new footfall tracking and heat mapping capabilities opening up the possibility of integration with big data initiatives, such as the London Datastore, as well as targeted smart advertising campaigns.
The firm has become one of the big stars of the UK tech scene since it was founded in 2009, drawing over £2m investment from its crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube last year, and taking part in Tech City UK and UKTI’s tech mission to the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas in March.
Following the launch of the new product, Pavegen Chief Executive Officer and Founder Laurence Kemball-Cook said: “This is the biggest moment in Pavegen’s history. We’ve created a product that can reshape the way people move in our cities, and with current digitisation our ability to connect physical and digital worlds through a single footstep places us at the forefront of the footfall energy-harvesting market.”
