Solar Power and it’s Applications

Solar power has emerged as a renewable energy resource that is exploited on a very large scale. Primarily in agricultural and industrial sector, solar energy has proved to be the ultimate solution to all energy needs on both regular and emergency basis.

Some of the major solar applications are enumerated below:

• Solar Thermal Power Plants: The power plants utilize solar energy to generate both electricity and heating. The hot water processed from solar heat finds applications in various industries.

• Photovoltaic: An array of PV panels is implanted on rooftops of houses, shops, hospitals, petrol pumps or industries. The panels convert the solar energy into electrical power which can be used to charge a battery which in turn can fulfill the energy requirements of a house or office.

• Solar powered satellites: Solar powered satellites help to direct sun rays to a special antenna on Earth which helps to generate a large amount of electricity. The benefit of SPS is that they work irrespective of day, night or any weather but their construction cost is very high.

• Solar lighting: This application finds use in strategic and smart building construction so as to utilize natural light to its maximum potential. This saves our HVAC system from overloading and our energy requirements are fulfilled in an eco-friendly way.

Solar power generation is an initiative that is highly backed by Indian government. Providing government subsidy on solar cold storage is one such example.

In areas that barely receive any amount of electricity, solar power has emerged as a life saver.
