Yorkshire Bank announces partnership with Fable

Yorkshire Bank has become a corporate patron of Fable, the renowned Sheffield charity established to support those affected by epilepsy.

The charity – which celebrates its 21st anniversary this year – was founded to raise awareness of epilepsy and help those affected by the condition to access support. It also runs a national patient support network as well as operating an Epilepsy Advice and Information Centre.

Founder Sandra Howard launched Fable in 1995 after raising funds for her son Gareth, who suffered life-threatening epileptic seizures throughout his childhood, to have pioneering treatment, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) therapy, for his condition. When she saw the transformative effect that the treatment had on his health Sandra was determined to raise awareness of VNS and help others to access the therapy.

The organisation now runs four shops in Sheffield and has raised over £3.5 million. In 2006 Sandra, who has won a number of charity accolades, was awarded an Order of the League of Mercy medal. She was also announced as Tesco Charitable Mum of the Year in 2015.

As corporate patron, Yorkshire Bank will provide enhanced support to Fable, which is a longstanding customer of the Bank. Fable is participating in a series of networking events organised by Yorkshire Bank to gain access to local businesses.
