Brand manager retires from business
The manager of a West Midlands business has retired today following a successful 37 year career in the motor trade.
Paul Cooper, brand manager at Wolverhampton Volkswagen, has stepped down today (May 16) from the role he has held for three years, confident that he is leaving the Bilston Road dealership in great shape.
“This is a very, very good business and The Trust Group has been a great company to work for. “But the time is right, and I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and getting over to Spain a bit more to enjoy the sun – there just aren’t enough weekends in the year at the moment!”
Paul, who is originally from Wednesfield but now lives in Stourbridge, has worked for a number of different brands over his 37 years.
“I got into the motor trade originally because it was the only sales job I could get that came with a company car,” he said.
Paul discovered a passion for buying and selling used cars rather than brand new, and carved a career that included 21 years with Evans Halshaw and five with Arnold Clark. He joined Wolverhampton Volkswagen as Brand Manager in 2013.
“It’s the people I will miss the most,” added Paul. “I’ve really enjoyed my time here, but it’s been very full on at times and I’m looking forward to having some more time to spend with my wife and four grandchildren.”
Wolverhampton Volkswagen is part of Trust Group UK with additional sites at Redditch and Stourbridge.
Trust Group managing director Andrew Hockedy said: “We’re sorry to see Paul go, but he’s been in the motor trade man and boy and has certainly earned his early retirement.
“He’s leaving Wolverhampton Volkswagen in great shape though, with new car sales up, finance renewals up and a really strong team of colleagues. We wish him the very best of luck in his retirement.”
