World Triathlon star in six-figure backing for energie Group’s fitness crowdfund
The crowdfunding campaign by fitness club franchise énergie Group has received a £100k investment boost from World Triathlon star and serial investor Lara Morgan.
Lara’s six-figure backing of énergie Group represents a hefty one-fifth of the group’s £500k crowdfunding target on Crowdcube which it hopes to use to significantly expand its network of ‘inclusive’ health gyms.
Founded by Jan Spaticchia and former Mangaging Director at David Lloyd Leisure, Steve Philpott, the fitness firm has over 110,000 members in 93 fitness clubs spread across five countries, but is looking to expand this number to over 1 million members with 583 clubs.
The investment from Lara, who competed in the World Triathlon Championship in Beijing, adds to her portfolio of investments in the health and fitness sphere, which includes modular kit bag KitBrix and toiletries brand Activbod.
Jan Spaticchia, Chief Executive Officer of énergie Group, hailed the backing and said: “The endorsement from a world class entrepreneur like Lara provides a fantastic boost to our campaign and our future.
“We have been thrilled by the response to this equity offer from franchisees, staff and members. We are now expecting the final shares to be picked up well in advance of the closing date in two weeks’ time.”
Lara Morgan added: “I only consider investing in businesses that are ethical and which make a difference to people’s lives. I’m convinced that énergie has the capability both to meet its ambitious growth targets and to help many thousands of people lead a more active and healthier life.”
At the time of writing, énergie’s crowdfunding total currently stands at £423,320 or 84% of their target.
