SES PRISM Team Graduate in Manufacturing Excellence

A 35-strong team at Huntington-based leading offsite manufacturing and prefabrication specialists, SES PRISM, is celebrating after achieving an accreditation recognising their ‘outstanding teamwork’.

SES PRISM held a special graduation ceremony to celebrate with the entire workforce on Monday 16th May after achieving their certification from Manufacturing Excellence, which co-ordinates the comprehensive business transformation programme.

Qualifications achieved included the NVQ II in Business Improvement Techniques, the VRQ II in Business Improvement Techniques, and the Adult Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance.

To achieve ‘manufacturing excellence’, for the past 18 months the team underwent fortnightly workshops, with the programme designed to revolutionise and maximise efficiencies across its processes and culture.

Each training session saw members of the team, from senior management to trainees, work together in groups to complete a series of exercises and problem solving activities designed to streamline manufacturing processes. It also focused on improving knowledge and health and safety awareness as well as building trust between colleagues.

The end result has been a unified ‘team-working’ mentality central to how the company operates and the implementation of new standardised operating procedures.

Together the team, who were all actively encouraged to put forward their ideas and take ownership of health and safety issues, have delivered a 20 per cent improvement in their overall labour efficiencies.

Dave Beattie, manufacturing manager at SES PRISM, commented: “Over the last 18 months, we’ve worked hard together as a team to achieve this transformation and ensure that we are performing at the very best level using the skills we’ve learned from Manufacturing Excellence.

“It’s not just been about improving processes on the factory floor, we’ve also got to know each other much better and the sessions have helped to break down barriers between different levels of the team.

“The result is a much more unified team who are truly on board with our new positive and efficient culture and I’m very proud of everyone for their dedication to the programme.”

Paul Bell, Managing Director, Manufacturing Excellence said: “Although a number of companies have taken part in this programme, the substantial degree of improvement that the guys have achieved here over the last 18 months is a great reflection on their team-working ethic and on Dave Beattie’s strong support for their work; credit is due to everyone at SES PRISM”.

With its nationwide capabilities, the SES PRISM team has supported a variety of high-profile projects, including the scheme to transform Drax Power Station into the UK’s largest single renewable electricity generator.
