Pennies from heaven add up for Platinum Award
A Sheffield-based healthcare company is one of the first businesses to be recognised by a new Platinum Award for charitable giving in the workplace.
B. Braun Medical Ltd is one of only six employers in the UK to receive the award, now the highest accolade achievable, from the Pennies from Heaven scheme.
More than half (approximately 57 per cent) of B. Braun employees currently round down their salaries every month and donate their spare pennies to charity via the scheme.
Since Pennies from Heaven was introduced by the company in 2011, more than £11,000 has been raised for various charities chosen by the company’s Employee Forum.
B. Braun’s Head of HR, Lisa Burns said: “Having held the Gold award for three years running, we are delighted to have been awarded one of the first Platinum Awards.
“For B. Braun to be publicly recognised in this way as an employer with employees who, year on year, have demonstrated commitment and generosity to local charities is an achievement which makes us very proud.”
Last year the Sheffield Helipad Appeal benefited from having been chosen by the Thorncliffe Employee Forum. And more recently the British Heart Foundation and the British Kidney Patient Association were chosen by the Employee Forums representing Braun’s Sterilog and Avitum divisions.
Through the Pennies from Heaven scheme, employee net pay is rounded down to the nearest pound with the pennies donated to charity.
