Builder chips in with cash donation
An Eastwood teenager has received a welcome fundraising boost as he cements his position as the UK’s number one junior foot golfer.
Ben Richardson, 15, received £250 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands, as part of the builder’s Community Champions scheme.
The funds will be used for help towards Ben’s travel, accommodation and kit expenses as he travels to events across the country. Footgolf is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. It combines football and golf, which sees players lay foot on the fairway with the aim of getting a size five football in a larger cup in as few shots as possible.
Dad, Lee Richardson, said: “We can’t thank Persimmon enough for this donation. Ben started playing in local competitions around Nottinghamshire then went in to regional and then national events. He now travels all over the country playing, so any help we receive is greatly appreciated.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Nadine O’Dowd, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “The Community Champions scheme is a way of supporting people across every city, town and village where we work.
“We are so pleased to hand over this donation to Ben. It seems fitting that we do all that we can to support him given his success and the popularity of the sport. We now look to allocate more funding and would encourage groups and individuals to apply by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
