Barratt director cycling UK in name of charity

A director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West is all set to jump in the saddle and cycle the length of the UK in a monumental effort to raise money for charity.

The cycle will see Barratt Developments’ Technical Director, Dave Hudson, pedal 1,000 miles from Lands’ End to John O’Groats in aid of Yorkshire based St Gemma’s Hospice, which provides the best possible care and quality of life for local people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

The ride, which is set to commence from Land’s End in Cornwall in August, will follow the traditional route, amounting to a total of around 1,000 miles, with 46,000 ft of climbing and an average of 111 miles per day required to reach the finish line at John O’Groats in Caithness, Scotland inside nine-days.

Dave’s cycle follows on from a 2015 ride that saw him travel over 300 miles from London to Paris, contributing to raising £40,000 for the Endeavour charity as part of a 45 strong peloton.

Dave, age 49, from Sheffield, commented:

“St Gemma’s Hospice is a hugely worthy charity, and I’m getting stuck into training and fundraising for the hospice. Land’s End to John O’Groats is a truly iconic journey - not many people can say they’ve had the experience of travelling the whole length of the UK, and I’m excited to be able to experience the stunning views that the ride has to offer. The cycle should be a real challenge and is a great follow on from the London to Paris ride we completed last year, raising a huge total for charity in the process.
