Kingston Eden Walk £400m redevelopment proposals approved

Property investment firm British Land and Universities Superannuation Scheme have been given the go-ahead to begin work on their £400m grand plan for Kingston town centre.

The plans, focused around the Eden Walk shopping centre, will see the transformation of the leisure destination, which was built in the 1960s, with a new cinema, a refurbished multi-storey and 400 flats.

British Land and Universities Superannuation Scheme submitted planning proposals for the site to Kingston Borough Council last October, which have now been approved according to Construction Enquirer.

The project is set to create 700 construction jobs in the area, once work begins, and is aimed at rejuvenating the outdated shopping centre in the face of stiff competition from the two Westfield behemoths in Hammersmith and Stratford.

It is also set to significantly alter the skyline in Kingston, with its range of five to ten-storey buildings and its central 16-storey building.
