Historic site at Sheffield’s Kelham Island brought to market for redevelopment

Two adjacent Grade-II listed buildings in the suburban location of Kelham Island in Sheffield have hit the market.

The sale of Cornish Works and Wharncliffe Works owned by George Barnsley & Sons, one of the last manufactures of steel tools for leather work and shoe making, is being managed by regional property consultants Commercial Property Partners (CPP) and Fernie Greaves.

The properties, covering a total site of 1.1acre, are easily accessible from the city centre and sit nearby a wide range of amenities including pubs, restaurants, museums and the Little Kelham development.

The ‘Island’, which is approximately 750 metres long, is considered one of the most important areas across Sheffield, identifying the development of the metal trades industry, which formed a huge part of the city’s growth throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
