New alternative therapy care home to create 15 jobs in Blackburn

A care home offering alternative therapy is set to create more than a dozen employment opportunities when it opens in Blackburn later this month.

Feng Shui House, delivered with development funding from Yorkshire Bank, will create 15 new jobs and provide a mix of day care, respite care and convalescence for elderly customers.

As one of just two alternative therapy care homes in the UK, according to owner Kate Burns, Feng Shui House’s services will encompass alternative therapeutic activities such as Indian head massages, crystal healing, reflexology and Reiki, a technique that proponents believe restores physical and emotional well-being.

Kate, who has over 25 years of care sector experience and also owns Feng Shui House in Blackpool, said: “Feng Shui House sits in a beautiful location at the edge of Blackburn in a B-listed building.

“The facility is currently undergoing extensive renovations to ensure a high quality finish which will make the home as welcoming and comfortable for residents and guests as possible.”

She continued: “Some of the team are trained in therapeutic treatments and we’ll also host visits by international spiritual healers throughout the year, as we do in our facility in Blackpool – this will help set Feng Shui apart from other care homes, and give residents a truly unique experience.

“Paul Swanick, our relationship manager at Yorkshire Bank, understands the business and supports our vision for the future of the company.”

Yorkshire Bank’s Preston-based head of business and private banking, Stewart Cook, said he believes the business will provide an important service and give the local community a welcome boost with the jobs being created.

He commented: “Kate has been providing high-quality care for the elderly at Feng Shui House in Blackpool for four years and looks set to continue to do so with the facility in Blackburn.”

Feng Shui Blackburn is due to open its doors at the end of June.
