Every little helps for local care home
A Driffield care home has been rewarded with the support of a project aiming to bring a positive contribution to the local community.
Staff from Driffield’s Tesco Superstore have donated a range of gifts as part of its company-wide Community Champions project, after recognising the exceptional care and activities programme Woodlands, based in Riverhead, Driffield, provides to its residents.
The project has meant the team from Woodlands, which is run by not-for-profit organisation, Hica Group, were recently able to collect garden tables and fresh food hampers donated by the Driffield Tesco Superstore.
Donations have also included fruit hampers for residents’ wine and cheese evening, daffodils and Easter eggs, red roses for Valentine’s Day, and materials for arts and craft activities.
Penni Brown, chief executive at Hica Group, said: “I would like to thank Tesco and its Community Champions at the Driffield store for the kind donations and the support.
“The relationship started after Tesco attended an open day at Woodlands, which was held for the local community and businesses. Ever since then, they have been a fantastic support and built a great relationship with the team at the home.
“We were delighted that Woodland’s team were recognised for their hard work and the effort which is put into care and activities programmes day in day out.”
Beccy Joyce, Community Champion at Tesco, said: “Ever since our first visit to Woodlands we have had a great connection to the residents and staff.
“It is very clear that care and facilities which are provided to the residents is exceptional, and the staff really put a lot of effort in to providing fun and enriching activities for everyone. We wanted to help support this fantastic home and its team by providing extra gifts for the residents.
“It is great to see the residents enjoying the items we have provided to them, and we look forward to seeing residents, staff and the visitors to the home enjoying the garden furniture.”
The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation, which operates a portfolio of 20 residential care homes, five of which are for people with a learning disability, along with two retirement villages. The company also runs a home care service providing approximately 11,500 hours of support and care from four regional offices in the North of England.
