Local housebuilder on mission to attract ex soldiers

Five star housebuilder, Barratt Developments, which includes Barratt Manchester, has launched a targeted campaign to attract and recruit ex forces personnel interested in retraining for a career in construction management.

The housebuilder says it is currently looking for candidates to join its brand new Trainee Assistant Site Manager Programme For The Armed Forces, accredited by the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) – offering a host of long term career benefits, exciting challenges and opportunities for development. The course starts in September this year, with the deadline for applications on 31 July.

Barratt Construction Directors say that many of the qualities they are looking for in its Trainee Site Managers fit the profile of people who have trained in the armed forces, including strong leadership and management skills, the ability to think outside the box, problem solve and work under pressure, whilst maintaining the very highest of standards.

Successful Trainee Site Managers are also required to be self-disciplined with excellent time management skills and a team player mentality – crucial attributes which the housbuilder says many former armed service personnel possess. Other key characteristics include strong leadership and management skills, as well as an ability to think outside the box, work under pressure and maintain the very highest of standards.

The course programme lasts 12 months and includes a comprehensive induction, supported by training and development both in a classroom and on-site setting. The course is designed to enhance and refresh skills already gained from being in the armed forces, and enables trainees to gain an NVQ Level 4 in Site Supervision, with the option to progress to Level 6 in the future.

Commenting on the new programme, Barratt Central Region MD, Bernard Rooney said: “Barratt is Britain’s best-known house builder and this new, tailored fast-track training programme offers ex forces personnel an excellent chance to launch themselves into a career that could see them transition from the armed forces to become a Site Manager in the near future.”

Barratt Manchester builds homes all over the North West, including Highgate Park, Warton, Imperial Park, Northwich, Tarleton Lock, Tarleton and Riverside View, Lancaster.
