Four Generations Of Staff Family Celebrate Resident's 90th Birthday
On their 90th birthday, many elderly people worry about their family not coming to visit them, but for one Belper based woman, four generations of her family have chosen to make the care home where she is a resident, their place of work.
Beryl Fox will celebrate her 90th birthday party at Milford House in Belper surrounded by four generations of her family, fellow residents and a visiting zoo- because of her love of animals.
Beryl’s family, with a combined age of 255, is clearly demonstrating that it has the ‘caring gene’ as her son David Fox (63) works on the maintenance team at Milford House, her granddaughters Kathryn White (42) and Joanne Treece (39) work as the Activities Coordinator, and Care Leader respectively, and her great-granddaughter Jessica Treece (21) works there as a housekeeper.
David Fox, painter and decorator for Milford Care said: “We’re delighted that Milford House are having this party to celebrate my Mum’s 90th birthday. I have worked for the group for eight years now, and used to look after my Mum at home before she moved into Milford House five years ago. We moved her into Milford House because it is basically the best.
“I knew exactly the level of care she would get, and we had no qualms in her staying there because I knew she would be very well looked after. It will be a fantastic occasion and it’ll be nice for her to be surrounded by so many family members.
Beryl is well known in the Belper community having once worked at the former Thornton’s factory on Derwent Street and her registered home manager, Sheila Barwick, has described her as being one of the homes ‘great characters’.
She said: “We are really happy to be having this celebration for Beryl. We have organised a visiting zoo because we know how much she loves animals.
“It will be fantastic for everyone to celebrate with her and it is just simply amazing that there will be four generations of family alongside her, who also happen to work at the home.”
Milford House is part of the Milford Care Group, a family run business that recently picked up five trophies at the Great East Midlands Care Awards, including the Care Employer Award, Outstanding Contribution to Social Care, Frontline Leader, Dignity in Care and the prize for Nutrition & Hydration.
