Adept Consulting Engineers appointed to Harrogate's Rudding Park £9.5m spa expansion
Adept Consulting Engineers has been appointed to conduct specialist structural designs for a new £9.5m spa expansion at Rudding Park in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Work commenced on the project earlier this year, which will include a 17 metre swimming pool, a hydrotherapy suite, thermal rooms, treatment complex, restaurant and bar as well as a rooftop garden.
Henry Boot and Howard Civil Engineering are the main contractors.
Designed by Leeds-based architects Enjoy Design, the three storey structure will feature submerged treatment rooms, with the main pool on the ground floor. The sauna and steam rooms will be in a glass structure at first floor level.
Adept has been appointed to design the reinforced concrete structures that will be used in the main building and basement areas to support the weight of the swimming pool and the roof garden.
Erol Erturan, managing director at Adept, said: “This is a stunning project to work on and there’s no doubt that it will prove to be another major attraction to add to the splendid range of facilities at Rudding Park.
“However, it’s also a very complex project because of the vast weights involved. The roof garden alone will have a loading requirement of two tonnes per square metre, once it has been landscaped.
“To overcome this, we have designed a major concrete frame which has the added benefit of being extremely water tight and very good acoustically, which means parts of the building will be very quiet to enhance its relaxed ambience.”
Peter Banks, managing director at Rudding Park, added: “This new Spa will surpass anything else in the north of England.
“The whole project is designed to recapture Harrogate’s Spa heritage, by providing a range of superb facilities in tranquil surroundings, and we’re delighted to be working with such an experienced team of consultants to deliver the scheme.”
The spa extension is the latest addition to the Harrogate hotel’s range of facilities which include a 90-bed four star hotel, the AA rosette Clocktower restaurant, golf course, cinema, conference centre as well as an existing spa.
