Local crafter wins hat-trick of international awards
A North-East crafter is celebrating after scooping three global awards after competing against some of the most respected personalities in the industry.
Sheena Douglass, from Blaydon, was awarded gold for ‘Best Painting Range’, gold for ‘Best Rubber Stamping Range’ and silver for ‘Best Overall Designer’ at the International Craft Awards in Birmingham.
A crafting expert and regular TV shopping presenter, 51-year-old Sheena is a well-known face in the craft world and has helped bring art to the masses.
Over the last 10 years she has built-up a loyal following of crafters who have been inspired by her rubber stamp creations and art products to help with papercrafting.
Over 17,000 crafters voted for their industry champions at the International Craft Awards and Sheena did her region proud. Speaking about her recent success, she said: “I am truly honoured to receive these awards as I was contesting against some of the biggest names in the industry.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to build up a really strong following from people over the years as a result of me helping them realise their creative potential and become artists by using the stamps we have developed.
“It is very humbling to be recognised on this scale and the awards are on display at my home in Gateshead for all to see!”
Sheena recently appeared at the grand opening of Crafter’s Companion’s first UK retail outlet in Newton Aycliffe to help celebrate the launch of the store as a destination for all crafters.
Now in its tenth year, the International Craft Awards ceremony is nominated and voted for by consumers to celebrate the world’s best creators, producers, designers and retailers within the creative sector.
Sheena added: “Being nominated by my fantastic and loyal customers makes the awards extra special.
“I’m always delighted to hear that my products are inspiring and educating people all over the world to become artists, and this is something I will continue to develop, particularly in the North East, to get even more people into crafting.”
Sheena sells her stamp and stencil ranges online through the award-winning Crafter’s Companion and on TV shopping channels broadcast across the world.
