North East construction firm boosts bidding power

ESH Construction has strengthened its position on winning public sector contracts after being awarded BIM construction industry accreditation.

The firm, which is part of the Esh Group, says it is one of the first North East companies to achieve the BIM Level 2 certification, which is mandatory for companies bidding for government work worth more than £2m.

The move proves competence in digitally managing information on building projects to speed-up and optimise processes.

Digital files are created to be shared between companies involved, from architects and consultants to build, fit-out, operations and management.

Where appropriate the firm will use BIM across all of its divisions - to benefit clients and subcontractors - saving time and money and mitigating risk.

Paul Errington, Esh Construction’s design and bid manager, welcomed the award of the certification, and said it reflects the continuing development of the company as an industry leader - and the exceptional skills of its workforce.

He adds: “BIM accreditation is an assurance of quality, recognised by those procuring work.

“We have already used it on some of our projects, for example the Thirteen Group Headquarters and Fusion Hive for Teesside University in Middlesbrough; and Ashington High School,for Northumberland County Council and Howard Street, Newcastle, for Home Group.”

BIM aims to achieve a 20% reduction in carbon levels across the construction industry.
