Sailing Into Summer with Port of Tyne
One of the North East’s biggest businesses has signed up to support a major, regional event.
The award-winning Port of Tyne, which offers a Northern gateway to worldwide markets, is sponsoring the South Tyneside Festival’s Sunday Concert series for the second consecutive year.
The series, which returns to Bents Park, South Shields in July, will feature four high profile concerts headlined by stars including Alexandra Burke (July 10), The Proclaimers (July 17), Tony Hadley (July 24) and UB40 (July 31).
It is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors to the borough and Susan Wear, Director of Corporate Affairs for Port of Tyne, said the company is delighted to be offering its support.
“The Port is proud to sponsor the South Tyneside Festival and to help South Tyneside Council stage these world-class concerts for so many people to enjoy,” she said.
The Sunday Concert series, which will also feature appearances by Lindisfarne (July 17) and X Factor favourites Ben Haenow and Reggie n Bollie (July 10), is being sponsored by Port of Tyne, as well as Zeera Indian Cuisine, Colmans fish and chips and NCS (National Citizen Service).
It forms part of the wider South Tyneside Festival, organised by South Tyneside Council, which offers free live music and family-focussed activities across South Shields until the end of August.
Other highlights of the event, which is being run in partnership with BBC Newcastle 95.4FM, include a Maritime Mayhem-themed parade on July 2 and Kids Fun Fest parties throughout August.
Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “It is fantastic to have Port of Tyne on board for the South Tyneside Festival’s Sunday Concert series.
“It is thanks to them and our other sponsors, Colmans, NCS and Zeera, that events like this are available to go-ahead year after year.”
