McClaren Construction seals £90m distribution centre job for homeware retailer
London’s McClaren Construction has been successful in its bid to deliver a £90m distribution centre for homeware chain The Range in what is predicted to be one of the biggest logistics deals this year.
The contract, which will see the construction of a new centre in Avonmouth near Bristol, comes in at 1.2m square feet or the equivalent of 15 Wembley Stadiums.
According to Construction Enquirer, McClaren fended off competition from a number of rival bidders with work to begin on the site at Bristol’s Central Park logistics development imminently.
Once completed, the centre is to become the homeware retailer’s new South of England distribution centre which will create over 1,000 new jobs in the area.
Commenting after the retailer had snapped up the 55 acre Bristol site in January, Chris Dawson, The Range’s founder, said “This Distribution Centre is a big step in the expansion plans that I have for the business.
“Along with over 1,000 new jobs at the site this building will deliver long-term service contracts for local suppliers and inject millions of pounds into the Bristol economy every year whilst supporting local firms during the construction.”
