Media firm World Wide Pictures masterminds coverage of Tim Peake’s return to Earth
London’s World Wide Pictures provided the coverage of British astronaut Tim Peake’s return home over the weekend after his six month stint on the International Space Station (ISS).
The digital media and event company, who also have an office in Leeds, worked with Russian search and recovery agency Rosaviatsa, as well as space station partners NASA and Roscosmos, to take live video from two camera crews as well as cameramen on chase helicopters to cover Tim’s return to Earth on Saturday.
Documenting his landing, extraction, first medicals and his official returning ceremony, the team will also had a camera team following his arrival back to European Astronaut Centre in Cologne.
World Wide, who have also worked with clients including Google and Diageo, posted highlights to broadcasters and provide edited packages on social media channels minutes after their downlinking from its satellite feed.
Karen Hayes, Managing Director of World Wide Pictures says: “We have delivered hundreds of live projects but to be involved in the first UK manned space mission since Helen Sharman flew to MIR is a real privilege for WWP.
“I think the nation has taken our home-grown astronaut completely into its heart and it has been a pleasure to have been at the forefront of communicating his mission achievements.”
Chichester-born Tim has been onboard the ISS since December last year and became the first-ever British astronaut to carry out a spacewalk.
