Football fans raise £3,200 for charity
Football fans raised thousands of pounds for charity at a Euro 2016 business event.
Forensic accounting and insolvency firm Inquesta, based in Radcliffe, organised a live screening of the England-Wales Group B match for more than 80 business contacts.
The event at Whitefield Golf Club, near Bury, included a buffet lunch, raffle and speed kick competition.
It raised £3,200 for Duchenne Now, which seeks to fund efforts to find treatments and a cure for Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, a serious genetic condition which affects about one in 3,500 children born in the UK each year.
Duchenne’s is a degenerative condition that causes muscle weakness. It is usually diagnosed in boys, most of whom will not survive beyond their mid-20s.
Rob Miller, who founded Inquesta with Steven Wiseglass in 2012, told guests that the charity is close to their hearts.
“Our great friends Tony and Tracy Levene have a son, Joey, who has Duchenne’s and we wanted to do everything we could to help the charity and those who are suffering from this condition while also celebrating Inquesta’s fourth anniversary,” he said.
“The money we raised will make a massive difference and we were delighted with the support we received from contacts and clients – as well as the eventual result of the match.
“The event was great fun and we had some wonderful raffle prizes, including an Apple Watch, gift sets, personal training sessions, toys and a round of golf for four people.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who gave a prize and to all of our guests for their generous donations to Duchenne Now.”
Tony, who lives with his family in Whitefield, said: “We are immensely grateful for Inquesta’s support for our charity. The efforts of the directors and staff in fundraising, enhancing awareness and learning about Duchenne’s have been amazing and humbling.
“On behalf of all at Duchenne Now, I would like to thank everyone for having huge hearts and making us their charity of choice.”
Inquesta was established by chartered accountant Rob and insolvency practitioner Steven, who between them have more than 20 years’ experience in practice.
The firm offers corporate recovery and insolvency services as well as expert forensic accounting, commercial finance brokering and advisory services.
