Students get insight into working for Jones Bros during summer placements
Jones Bros is holding a work experience week for students who showed an interest in the company and the industry during a recent careers day.
Civil engineering, quantity surveying and estimating, environmental quality control and finance are among the departments that will be welcoming the work placement students this summer.
Asha Glenn, of Jones Bros HR department, said: “Joining our team on one of these positions is a great opportunity for young people to give their career a head start.
“Many of our successful past placement students have been offered full time contracts at the end of their academic studies. Some of these have progressed through their professional qualifications with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
“We are really keen to get across the wide range of opportunities that are available at Jones Bros, not just for university students but young people studying for their GCSEs and A-Levels who may be considering what they want to do in the future.”
Experts within business and universities and colleges believe that every student should have the opportunity to do an internship as part of their studies, while a recent survey of 100 recruiters emphasised the increasing value and importance of work experience and internships.
The work experience placements are part of a major drive by Jones Bros to attract enthusiastic, motivated people to the company. It was launched after the company started to struggle to attract applications at a sufficient rate to fill its expanding apprentice and trainee engineer programmes.
Jones Bros has identified that future growth may be slowed by a lack of trainees rather than insufficient new work.
