Siemens launches latest recruitment drive to fill 100 new jobs in Hull

Siemens has launched the next major phase of recruitment for its new wind turbine blade factory in Hull, aiming to fill 100 jobs that will take the numbers hired to over 500.

The new positions are for four Group Leads, seven Team Leads, three Quality Controllers and a total of 86 Operatives in the Warehouse, Maintenance, Packing, Coating, Assembly and Finishing departments.

It is the second largest number of jobs advertised at one time by Siemens in Hull.

The positions will be filled by new recruits once the Hull blade factory at Alexandra Dock opens in September. Start dates for the jobs will be between September and November.

As the factory will then be operational, these are also the first roles that will not require recruits to travel to Siemens’ sister blade factory in Aalborg, Denmark, for training.

From September, all training will take place at a combination of the Hull College Group Composites Training Centre on Hull’s Preston Road estate, at a warehouse at Alexandra Dock which has been converted into a training facility, and the factory itself.

To date, Siemens has received 16,500 applications for jobs in Hull, from around 6,000 individual candidates. Just over 450 jobs have been filled or have people due to join the company, meaning the latest phase of recruitment will take Siemens over halfway to its target of employing 1,000 people across the Alexandra Dock site in manufacturing, engineering, logistics and service roles.

Carolyn Woolway, Siemens’ head of human resources for the Hull project, said: “We have had a tremendous response to the hundreds of jobs we have advertised so far and we have been delighted with the quality of applications and appointments.

“We are building a team of amazing people in Hull and these latest jobs open up opportunities for many more local people to be part of creating a world-class manufacturing operation that will help to create a sustainable future for generations to come.

“As we have stressed previously, we are committed to diversity in the workplace and want to ensure women make up a substantial part of our workforce, as they do in similar Siemens manufacturing operations elsewhere in the world. We will be taking part in an event on August 20 to encourage girls and women to consider manufacturing and engineering as careers. Details of this event will be published on the Green Port Hull website shortly.

“The fact that these roles will not involve periods of training in Denmark may make them more attractive to women with family commitments and we really want to encourage female candidates to put themselves forward.”
