Watkin Jones £100m student accommodation scheme given the greenlight

Construction on another student accommodation scheme in London is set to begin after a £100m Watkin Jones project in Stratford was given the go ahead.

The UK developer announced to the stock exchange this morning that its proposed redevelopment of Duncan House, which is located on Stratford High Street, has been giving planning permission.

Consisting of 511 beds, encompassing 420 beds and 91 studios, 44 residential units and 30,000 sq ft of academic space housed within a 33-floor building, it joins a number of other student accommodation developments that have sprung up in the area.

The property developer is already in advanced negotiations to forward sell the student part of the development to the University of London, while residential units on the site will be sold separately.

Ahead of the project’s projected 2019 completion date, Mark Watkin Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Watkin Jones, said: “We are delighted to have secured planning consent for this latest scheme in our pipeline which builds our visibility around our business model. We expect to be on site towards the end of 2016 and complete the scheme in 2019.”
