Approval given for 103-bedroom student living scheme in Sheffield

WCEC Architects has secured planning approval for the redevelopment of the Silverpride Works site in Sheffield city centre.

Situated on the corner of Matilda Street and Eyre Lane; the site is also directly opposite the former Gatecrasher nightclub.

The scheme has been designed by WCEC on behalf of SB Wall and Bolsterstone LLP, working with DLP Planning.

The development will deliver 103 self-contained Studio bedrooms, ranging from 18-25m2 in size. In addition, a shared amenity space at Ground floor will provide an operational management suite, with study and social spaces for residents.

The site is located within an area of established operational student living buildings, which predominantly serve Sheffield Hallam University.

Nick Riley, WCEC’s design director who has been involved in the scheme since inception, said: “This project will deliver a quality building; both architecturally and in the living environment it creates for residents. Students are an integral part of Sheffield’s economy and culture.

“Purpose built developments like this in the city is right, in my opinion, and will ensure the Universities continue to attract both domestic and international students to the city.”
