Former army officer buys Holmfirth fish and chip shop with £71k loan
An ex-Army officer has purchased a Holmfirth-based fish and chip shop following a £71k funding deal with NatWest.
Lee Whiteley has bought Meltham Fisheries, which includes the chip shop and residential accommodation to be let out adjacent to the retail unit.
For 24 years Lee served in the Army where much of his time was spent in the Catering Corps where he served on overseas operations and on several occasions for the Royal Family.
Lee said: “It’s been hectic getting everything together so we can open around Meltham Memories Weekend. It is a very popular event and by far, the largest and busiest event of the year, so we are really going to hit the ground running.
“I am very excited about digging out my catering gear and putting my catering skills to use once again, and becoming further integrated within the delightful village community.”
When the time came to obtain funding for the purchase, Lee turned to NatWest Relationship Manager Maddie Holmes, who provides Real Estate Finance support to customers. Maddie obtained a £71k loan to facilitate.
Lee added: “Maddie and NatWest have been fabulous. I didn’t expect the banking process to be so swift and smooth, whilst having such a personal touch. Instead of meeting at a bank, Maddie came to our home and helped us with the paperwork. It made such a difference and I have felt more of a friend than a customer”
Maddie commented: “It’s an exciting time for Lee and Meltham Fisheries, as he takes on the business. Lee is very passionate about what he is doing and I wish him every success for the future.”
