New route for aspiring lawyers

A LEADING North East solicitors is offering aspiring future lawyers a different route to qualify, with a new apprenticeship scheme.

EMG Solicitors, based in Durham, is giving law graduates the chance to undertake a solicitor apprenticeship within the firm’s niche private client practice, which specialises primarily in Court of Protection work but also covers everything from wills and family law to residential conveyancing and litigation.

The new vacancy will give graduates, with a 2.1 or above, the opportunity to achieve an LLM Masters degree during their training and complete the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s new centralised assessment, which, if successful, will lead to their qualification as a solicitor without the need for a further two year training contract.

The role is part of a development of new employer-designed “trailblazer” apprenticeships in conjunction with leading apprenticeship provider Damar Training and the University of Law, the UK’s longest-established specialist provider of legal education.

“This is a brilliant opportunity for a committed individual to not only gain a role as an apprentice solicitor, but to work within a nationally recognised specialist practice and learn from our dedicated team of driven individuals,” said Emma Gaudern, MD at EMG Solicitors.

“We’re delighted to offer an alternative for graduates wanting to avoid the traditional pathway to a legal qualification and look forward to giving the right candidate the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in the workplace, and of course, leading them to a successful career in the legal profession.”

Since setting up in 2014 by Court of Protection expert Emma Gaudern, EMG Solicitors has continued to grow the practice and now has experts in a range of areas.
