Northern Celebrates Award Recognition
Regional Operator Triumphs Twice At Investors In People Awards
Northern, part of the Arriva group, is celebrating global recognition as a leader in people management practice by taking home two top awards at this year’s Investors in People Awards, including Best Overall Investor in People.
The ceremony was held at Old Billingsgate Market in London on Wednesday 29 June.
The Investors in People Awards recognises the people and teams that make a difference every day. Drawing applications from across the Investors in People global community, in the 25th year of Investors in People, the 2016 awards programme received over 300 entries from across 12 countries.
Northern triumphed not only as the year’s ‘Best Newcomer’ but also took home the ‘Best Overall’ award; beating off fierce competition from both Gold and Platinum accredited winners from around the world. Northern achieved Silver accreditation status in Investors in People in 2015.
The judging panel commented “A fantastic example of an integrated programme of activity that builds capability for individuals and the organisation. The outputs of the changes are hugely impressive and the level of investment is matched by the care evidently put into the solutions.”
Previous finalists have included large and small businesses, growing companies, public sector champions and blue chip multinationals.
Alex Hynes, Managing Director for Northern comments: “We have more than 5,200 colleagues working together across the Northern network to serve 270,000 customers every day.
“These awards are fantastic recognition of our strong commitment to developing our people and making Northern a great place to work and build a career.”
Paul Devoy, Head of Investors in People, said: “Once again we have been overwhelmed by the number and calibre of entries received for the Investors in People Awards. It’s fantastic to see so many organisations nominated for outperforming in their sector, demonstrating great people management practice and a commitment to staff development, all winners should feel extremely proud.”
