Liverpool John Lennon Airport posts half-year passenger surge
Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) saw its passenger figures leap in June, according to new data.
The airport saw year-on-year passenger growth of 11% last month, with the overall figure for the first six months of the year up 15% in comparison to H1 2015.
June also marked LJLA’s 17th consecutive month of passenger growth.
So far in 2016, more than 2.3m passengers have passed through the airport, which represents an increase of around 300k against the same period last year.
In the last few months, a number of airlines have introduced new routes or ramped up their existing services at LJLA.
At the beginning of June, European airline Blue Air announced the launch of flights connecting Liverpool with Cluj in northwest Romania, while travel operator Balkan Holidays announced the resumption of its Merseyside operations after a 10-year absence.
In April, the airportforecast passenger growth following the launch of easyJet’s Winter 2016 schedule, which will see the budget carrier provide around 600k seats across 3,700 flights for Liverpool passengers.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport’s head of PR, Robin Tudor, said of the figures: “2016 is set to be the airport’s best year in terms of passenger numbers since 2011.
“This year has seen more new operators, more new destinations and the completion of a variety of terminal developments that have improved the customer experience, helping to give passengers from across the North West and North Wales more of what they want from their local airport.”
LJLA’s latest passenger growth figures follow news of a new group established to explore a potential route connecting Liverpool with London’s Heathrow.
