Meet the Cadbury's descendant delivering gourmet chocolate to the on-demand economy

Entrepreneur James Cadbury is channelling his family heritage into his latest venture which will see gourmet chocolate delivered directly to the letterboxes of chocoholics across the country.

James, who is the great-great grandson of George Cadbury, took inspiration from his significant family heritage to launch Love Cocoa, his new ethical chocolate startup that aims to bring the on-demand economy to chocolate deliveries.

Taking aim at the greetings card market, and taking a leaf out of similar on-demand delivery startups like Bloom & Wild, the business has developed a range of 85g chocolate bars that can fit through a letterbox for simple home delivery and do not require a signature.

Speaking about his inspiration behind the new business, James said: “I was searching for an online service through which I could post a chocolate gift directly to my Mum for her birthday, but I could not find a service which was next day and that fitted through the letterbox. Most retailers require items to be signed for - that ruins the surprise.”

“I looked everywhere, but in the end I popped a handmade card and some chocolate in the post. What if I could do this from the comfort of my own home? I thought, and I knew I’d spotted a gap in the market for premium letterbox-friendly chocolate gifts.”

James is also looking to put his previous experience at property crowdfunding platform Property Moose, which he co-found, to work with an imminent crowdfunding campaign that will fuel the company’s future expansion.

Undercutting the whole endeavour is a dedication to creating a product that is ‘absolutely pure, therefore the best’, just like his great-great grandfather.

Focusing on handcrafted, organic bars made from fair trade cocoa, the brand’s initial range of bars celebrates iconic British flavours such as English Mint, Earl Grey and Maldon Sea Salt, and has plans to develop a drink-inspired range in the near future.
